Iron Filters:
The Ironeater (U.S. Patent) is used in conjunction with a manganese greensand filter, which uses potassium
permanganate (KMnO4) or air injection to charge the bed with oxygen. Iron is consequently removed by scrubbing the bed during the backwash/service cycle. This process produces consistently
clean, and iron free water for your home or business.
Traditional units do not work (See below)
Research and Development are an essential element to ensure your water treatment is of the highest quality through both products and services. With co-development between Ray Field, Dave DeJong, the University of Alberta, and the Canada Research Council, the Ironeater was designed, tested, patented and is now being manufactured for Big Iron Drilling.

Domestic control valve, manufactured by Autotrol and distributed by Big Iron Drilling. Proven efficiency, reliability, and ease of use. The most popular control valve is the Autotrol 940/255.

Ironeater:
- Prevents mineral beds from fouling with iron, sulphur, hardness, and bacteria.
- Works like a sand-blaster in water.
- Can be used with upflow and downflow brine control valves.
- Needs only 3 U.S.
gallons per minute for backwash
|
- Can be installed on virtually all domestic control valves.
- Saves salt, saves KMnO4,
- saves water, and saves money.
- Can be used on softener resin, greensand, birm, and filter Ag etc.

Why Traditional units do not work:
Dip tube units experience
a channeling effect of the media bed,
rendering them inefficient for water treatment.
As the bed continues to load with iron,
the service water and the backwash water
take the path of least resistance in the tank,
leaving much of the bed unused.
Initially they will remove iron from water,
however, because their is no effective method
for removing the accumulated iron from the unit,
the bed fouls. This is a hydrodynamic principle
of physics (Bernoulli's Principle), which is a
certainty, not a possibility.
CLICK below to see an ANIMATION
of the traditional unit. In a softener the water goes hard
and salt is wasted; in filters, iron passes
through and potassium permanganate (KMnO4)
is wasted.
In addition there is a blatant contradiction
between media bed backwash flow requirements,
and control valve backwash capability.
SOLUTION?
BIG IRON DRILLING
can realistically eliminate these problems!
